All-in-One Event Control Software: Alternatives to ProPresenter & vMix

Most conference operators don't need a broadcast switcher — they need a timer, a projector output, a jingle button and a way to keep fifteen speakers on schedule without five overlapping apps. Here's how the options compare.

The real problem: too many apps, one operator

A typical conference day involves separate tools for the countdown, the speaker slides, the walk-in music, the panel discussion layout and the schedule itself. Running all five live, alone, means constant alt-tabbing at exactly the moments you can least afford a mistake.

Option 1 — ProPresenter

Excellent for churches and broadcast-style productions with lower thirds, live camera input and complex visual layers. For a standard conference agenda it's more tool than you need, with a learning curve and licensing cost to match — and no purpose-built concept of "speaker list" or "panel seat."

Option 2 — vMix

A full live-production video switcher: multiple camera inputs, streaming, recording, graphics. Superb if you're producing a broadcast-quality stream. If your event is a room with a projector and a schedule of speakers, vMix solves problems you don't have while leaving the ones you do have — timers, jingles, panel grids — unsolved.

Option 3 — Five separate single-purpose apps

A free timer, a free media player, a playlist app for music, sticky notes for the running order. It works, until the operator has to update four things by hand every time a speaker changes — the exact moment an event goes visibly off the rails.

Option 4 — One Control

One Control is built specifically for the conference/panel format, with everything synced to one schedule:

Frequently asked questions

Can I import my agenda from Excel?

Yes — One Control reads CSV and Excel files and maps speaker name, topic, time and notes automatically.

Does it support launching PowerPoint on a separate podium PC?

Yes, via the companion app One Control Remote — activating a list row can open the assigned presentation on the podium machine automatically.

Can I still use a free standalone timer if I don't need the rest?

Sure — see our free countdown timer guide for AV Pro Timer, which is free with no limits.
