NearHop is a free utility for sending a file or folder from one laptop to another over the same WiFi — no email, no WeTransfer, no cloud upload. Built for conferences, meeting rooms, and events where two laptops are a few meters apart but still end up mailing files to each other.
Pick a file or folder, NearHop gives you a short 6-digit code, you tell the other person the code (say it out loud, paste it in chat — it's just a code, not the file), they type it in, and the transfer starts directly over the local network.
No browsable device list to scroll through — at a busy conference with dozens of laptops on one WiFi, that's unusable anyway. You only ever connect to the one person you gave the code to.
Share a single file or an entire folder. Folders are sent as individual files with the folder structure preserved on the receiving end — no zipping required.
The same code can be pulled by more than one laptop at once — send the same footage to two computers simultaneously, each with its own independent progress.
Scan a QR code on the sender's screen to open a page in your phone's browser — no app install needed. Download what's shared, or send a photo or file straight back to the laptop.
Some venue WiFi blocks device discovery between laptops. If that happens, the Send tab shows your address directly so the receiver can connect manually with the same code.
Drop a file or folder straight onto the Send tab, or use the Choose Files / Choose Folder buttons — either way, sharing starts in one step.
Nothing leaves the local WiFi. The file goes straight from one laptop to the other — no upload, no waiting on inbox delivery, no attachment size limits.
No license key, no account, no trial period. Download it, run it, use it — on your own laptop or handed to a colleague.
Minimize NearHop to the system tray and it keeps serving your shared files in the background while you work on anything else.
