4Rec Manual

1. Overview

4Rec records up to 4 cameras and microphones at once. Each active slot writes its own H.264 MP4 (video + audio) plus a separate backup WAV of that slot's microphone — so you get independent per-camera files with no manual syncing required, and a clean audio-only backup for every mic.

2. Installation & Activation

System Requirements

• OS: Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
• RAM: 8 GB minimum recommended for 4 simultaneous camera streams
• Cameras: up to 4 webcams or capture cards
• Disk: fast local storage recommended — 4 simultaneous video streams need real write throughput

Installing

1. Download 4Rec-Setup.exe from the 4Rec product page.
2. Run the installer. Windows may show a SmartScreen warning — click More info → Run anyway to proceed.
3. Follow the installer prompts. 4Rec installs to Program Files\CueCongress\4Rec by default.
4. Launch 4Rec from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.

License Activation

1. On first launch, the license activation window appears. Enter your license key and click Activate.
2. 4Rec connects to the CueCongress license server to verify your key. An internet connection is required for the first activation.
3. Once activated, the app works offline between checks. Your license is tied to the current device.

Deactivating (Moving to Another Device)

Open the About dialog and click Deactivate License. This frees the license so you can activate on a different machine.

Opening the App Twice

4Rec only ever runs one instance at a time. If you try to launch it while it's already running, the existing window is simply brought to the front instead of opening a duplicate.

3. Camera & Microphone Setup

4Rec has 4 independent slots. Each slot can be assigned its own camera and its own microphone — they don't have to match (e.g. one camera's built-in mic paired with a different slot's dedicated microphone).

Assigning a Slot

1. Pick a camera for the slot from its device dropdown.
2. Pick a microphone for the same slot from its own dropdown.
3. Start the slot to see its live preview and audio level meter.

You don't have to use all 4 slots — an inactive slot is simply skipped during recording.

4. Recording

4Rec checks free disk space before starting, so you're warned about a full drive before it cuts a take short rather than after.

Starting a Recording

1. Start every camera/mic slot you want to record.
2. Choose your output folder and base filename.
3. Click Record. Every active slot begins writing its own MP4 and backup WAV simultaneously.

What Gets Written

Each active slot produces two files: an H.264 MP4 containing that slot's video and audio together, and a separate WAV file of just that slot's microphone — a clean audio-only safety copy independent of the video file.

5. Live Monitoring

Enable Monitor Mode to listen to incoming audio live while recording, so you can catch a muted mic or audio problem by ear in real time instead of discovering it after the event is over.

6. Projects — Save, Load & Autosave

Your camera/mic assignments and settings can be saved as a project file and reloaded instantly for your next session — useful if you run the same multi-camera setup repeatedly. 4Rec also autosaves your current configuration, so a crash or restart doesn't lose your setup.

7. Troubleshooting

A camera slot shows no preview

• Confirm the camera isn't already in use by another application — most webcams only allow one active connection at a time.
• Try re-selecting the camera from its dropdown, or reconnecting the device.

Recording stopped unexpectedly

• Check available disk space — 4 simultaneous video streams can fill a drive faster than expected.
• Make sure your storage can sustain the required write throughput for multiple simultaneous streams; an external or network drive may not keep up.

App not starting / installer warning

• Windows SmartScreen may warn about software from a new publisher. Click More info → Run anyway.
• Try running the installer as Administrator if installation fails.

License activation fails

• Ensure an active internet connection is available during first activation.
• Check that you are entering the license key exactly as received — with dashes, no extra spaces.
• If your license is already active on another device, deactivate it there first via the About dialog, then activate on the new device.
